Job Summary

Reel FX Creative Studios, the award winning animation studio behind The Book of Life, is expanding its creative reach to include its newest office in Montreal. Recruitment for all of our projects, including the new animated feature Ugly Dolls directed by Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Desperado, Spy Kids), is in progress with openings in the new Montreal location.

Based in Dallas for over 20 years, we’ve collaborated with Warner Bros, Disney, Fox, Paramount, Sony, Universal, Illumination and Google among others, with a passion for excellence on every project. From short film, branded content, ride film, or full length animated feature work, the team is constantly pushing for advancements in creativity, style, and process. Studio offices are in LA, Montreal and Dallas.

Under the direction of the Animation Supervisor this position is responsible for creating performance and motion for characters and objects based on storyboards, animatics and other visual references. Animator positions of ALL levels starting as early as January 2018 in Montreal.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Create key frame animation sequences as assigned by the Supervisor
• Create lip-sync, facial, and body character animation as well as prop animation.
• Remain current and up-to-date in animation techniques
• Consistently meet production goals as assigned by APM/PM team
• Willing to step in as a character specialist as needed per the production.

Education and Experience Requirements

• Degree/diploma in fine arts or animation or equivalent experience
• Minimum 1 – 2 years experience as Junior Animator (or equivalent)
• Solid understanding of character animation, and lip-synching
• Good understanding of strong character posing and performance
• Proficient with Maya and or equivalent program
• Strong compositional skill is preferred but not essential
• Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
• Able to multi-task and prioritize
• Enjoy working in teams
• Able to follow directions, receive and address critiques
